The Choir is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Rachael Power B.Mus.Ed as its new Musical Director, a significant milestone as the celebrated choir prepares to mark its centenary year.
Ms.Power’s inaugural official engagement took place at St Mary's Church Carol Service, Castleblaney recently where the Choir were the special guests of the Muckno Singers.
Speaking ahead of her debut, Ms. Power a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, expressed her enthusiasm for the role: “It’s an incredible honour to step into the role of Musical Director during the choir’s centenary year. This choir has a rich legacy, and I’m excited to be part of its next chapter. The choir has a reputation for excellence and musicality, and I hope to build upon this, as well as bringing energy and new ideas during my tenure.”
PMVC Choir Chairperson, Donald Keys, fully endorsed Ms. Powers’ appointment, stating: “It will be a busy year of official and community engagements as the choir celebrates 100 years of making music since its formation in 1926. We look forward to acknowledging the commitment of all its members past and present who have built and continue to build upon its reputation. We eagerly anticipate the future under the tutelage and guidance of Ms. Power.”
Rachael, an accomplished musician from a Salvation Army background has composed and published her own music arrangements as well as conducting choirs in the UK and the USA.
PMVC Choir has a long-standing reputation for musical excellence and commitment to the local community. The choir is dedicated to preserving its rich musical heritage while continuously exploring new repertoire and performance opportunities.
The choir warmly welcomes new members, the ability to read music is not a prerequisite to membership. If you are interested in giving it go, why not come along to taster sessions on a Monday night practice at Portadown Golf club. Choir recommences on 5th January at 7.30pm.
