Message from
the President of the Choir
I am delighted and honoured to be President of this internationally renowned and acclaimed Choir, which will soon be celebrating its centenary.
The Choir continues to go from strength to strength and as ever brings joy and pleasure to countless thousands of people, maintaining the highest musical standards and competing at local, national and international festivals. Choral singing also provides members with the benefits of fellowship, as well as the amazing adrenalin rush derived from public performances. I am often told by members that they look forward so much to weekly choir practices because of the physical and mental boost provided. In addition, music making has enabled the Choir, through the generosity of its audiences, to contribute well over £100,000 in recent years to deserving charitable causes.
The Choir always welcome new members so do please make contact either directly or through this web site if you would like to spread your musical wings!
Reaching and maintaining such high standards of music making does not come by accident. It is the product of the steadfast commitment of Choir members, the hard work of its office bearers and committee, as well as the wonderful support provided by the Choir’s talented accompanist, Steven Bell. Gordon Speers, as Musical Director for more than 45 years and member of the Choir for over 60, has thus devoted much of his life to leading it to ever higher peaks of performance.
I wish Portadown Male Voice Choir continued success as it heads towards its 100th year of existence.
Edward Wilson CBE
